A little room to think.
Choose a board and someone to play.
0.5 avoids ties. It’s an experimental starting point for these small boards, not a promise of perfect balance.
Starting a new game replaces the game saved in this browser.
Black starts. Take turns clicking or tapping an empty intersection. Stones stay where you place them. Two-player games share this device; the practice bot always plays White.
A group connects along the lines. Its empty neighboring intersections are its liberties. Fill all an opponent’s liberties to capture that group. You cannot leave your own group with no liberties unless your move first captures opposing stones.
You cannot play a move that recreates an earlier board position. This is positional superko. Passing is always allowed during play.
Two consecutive passes open scoring. Click a dead group to mark it with ×; click again to restore it. Dead groups are decided by you, not automatically. If there’s disagreement, resume play and settle it on the board.
Your score is live stones plus empty intersections bordered only by your color. Shared empty regions are neutral. White adds the chosen komi. Captured stones are shown for reference and aren’t added again. Accept the score when both players agree.
Try 7 × 7 to begin, 5 × 5 for quick fights, or 3 × 3 to experiment with the rules. The practice bot is a simple local opponent, not a strong Go engine. It passes when you pass.
Use arrow keys on the board, then Enter or Space to play. P passes or accepts the score, U undoes, R resumes, N starts setup, and H opens this guide. Escape closes dialogs. Bot-mode undo takes back your turn and its reply.
Changes save in this browser. There are no accounts or online multiplayer. Clearing this site’s browser data removes the save. Private browsing or blocked storage may prevent saving. If another tab changes the save, this tab pauses to protect it. Reload to continue from that save, or explicitly start a new game to replace it.
The other player wins. You can still use Undo to revisit the game.
